About Me

My name is Brooke Elder. I am a stay at home mom. I live in Layton, Utah with my husband, two young boys, and two dogs! My family keeps me very busy. I secretly wish I lived by a beach! I grew up sailing on the Great Salt Lake and even lived on a sailboat while going to college. I taught first and fourth grade for four years until I had my second child and decided to stay home.

I first heard about Scentsy two years before I became a consultant. At the time I had just signed up to be a make-up consultant. I thought it would be easy to sell make-up and face cleansers. It turned out it was a lot of hard work with little return. I was involved with a boutique to peddle my lipstick, where I first was introduced to Scentsy. The Scentsy booth was right next to mine and everyone seemed to skip right past me and go straight to the great smelling products. I talked with the consultant and she told me how easy it was to sell Scentsy. All you had to say was "Here, smell this." Right then and there I wished I had been presented with Scentsy prior to my make-up disaster! I knew my husband would be unsupportive to say the least if I came home and said, "I know I just spent $2000 on inventory (make-up that no one wanted), but I changed my mind. I want to sell scented wax!" So I decided to work really hard and get rid of my inventory. After three months and hating almost every minute of it, I quit all together. Scentsy was always in the back of my mind, but I wanted it to be the right time.

Fast forward two years later when I was presented with the opportunity yet again. This time I thought long and hard about it. I didn't want to make the same mistake again. The more research I did about Scentsy, the more I wanted to join. I didn't want it to be another make-up blunder, but I thought I would try it. What really caught my eye was Scentsy discourages having large inventory! My first party wasn't hard at all. I didn't have to do a presentation in front of people I didn't know. I was able to get to know my guests and have a good time. It was way easier than I ever thought it could be. I wish I would have joined earlier, but I believe that there is a time and a season for everything.

If you are thinking about joining Scentsy, but have some questions, please Contact Me. I did all my homework before I made the leap and I am so glad that I did!

About Scentsy

Scentsy began in 2003 with the powerfully simple idea of aromatic candles – decorative warmers with wax melted by the heat of a light bulb instead of a traditional wick and flame. Colette Gunnell and Kara Egan, Scentsy’s founders, shared enthusiasm for the idea. From this idea, they created a partnership and Scentsy was born.

Enter Orville Thompson, who first encountered Scentsy at a home show in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 2004. When Orville saw the candles made by this tiny Utah company, he immediately knew they had huge potential.

Sensing there was something special about the wickless candle concept, he brought a handful of testers home to his wife, Heidi, and her mother and sister. After introducing them to the testers, he left them alone. When he returned an hour later, the women were still smelling the testers, laughing and sharing memories.

Orville was intrigued by how smelling different scents brought powerful emotions and memories to the surface, and how natural it was to share those feelings and memories with others.

Within months, Orville and Heidi purchased Scentsy from Kara and Colette, bringing the company to Idaho where its first home was literally a metal box. Orville had a 40-foot ocean shipping container on his small sheep farm, which housed Scentsy’s manufacturing and shipping operations for several months.

Orville and Heidi decided to market and sell Scentsy products directly to consumers through home parties. On July 1, 2004, Scentsy signed its first consultant and officially became a direct selling “Party Plan” company.

Now celebrating its fifth anniversary, Scentsy is a recognized industry-leading company. In 2009 the Direct Selling Association awarded Scentsy its highest honor available to young companies, the Rising Star Award, for its growth and commitment to ethical business practices.

With more than 40,000 Independent Scentsy Consultants throughout North America, Puerto Rico and Guam, Scentsy is poised to lead the industry for the next five years and beyond.

What began in 2004 as a simple idea has truly grown into something extraordinary, as Scentsy continues to touch thousands of lives in profound ways.
